About Psilocybin

What is psilocybin?

Psilocybin is a naturally occurring compound found in certain mushrooms. When consumed, it converts to psilocin in the body, which interacts with serotonin receptors to shift perception, mood, and awareness. It has been used in healing traditions for thousands of years and is now backed by a growing body of modern clinical research.

Yes. Jamaica is one of the few countries in the world where psilocybin mushrooms are fully legal. There are no restrictions on their use, possession, or facilitation — which is one of the reasons Mycelia is based here. You can attend your retreat with complete peace of mind.

Clinical research and participant experience point to significant benefits for depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, OCD, substance use disorders, and burnout. Many guests also report breakthroughs in creativity, self-awareness, relationship clarity, and spiritual connection. Every experience is unique — we work with you to understand your specific needs before you arrive.

Yes, when held in a properly prepared, professionally guided environment. Psilocybin is non-addictive and well-tolerated by most people. Our process includes a thorough health and intake screening before every retreat to ensure you are a good candidate. We do not accept guests with a history of psychosis, schizophrenia, or certain bipolar conditions.

Our Retreats

What retreat options do you offer?

We offer three retreat formats to suit different needs and schedules:

1-Day Retreat A single guided psilocybin ceremony for those seeking an introduction to the medicine. Includes pre-ceremony breathwork, private guide, exceptional setting with saltwater pool, fresh food prepared by our private chef, and a VIP experience for up to 7 guests.

5-Day Retreat A deeper immersive experience including 2 psilocybin ceremonies, one Bufo Alvarius ceremony, pre-retreat workbook, massage, beach integration session, home-cooked meals, air-conditioned private accommodation, and full transportation during your stay.

7-Day Retreat Our most transformative offering. Up to 4 psilocybin ceremonies, one Bufo Alvarius ceremony, reflective journal, 2 massage sessions, yoga and relaxation, breathwork, sound healing, private Caribbean Sea views, home-cooked meals with local produce, and air-conditioned private accommodation.

We recommend booking at least 30 days before your preferred retreat dates. Reach out early to secure your place.

This depends on your retreat selection. The 1-Day includes one ceremony. The 5-Day includes 2 ceremonies. The 7-Day includes up to 4 ceremonies, allowing progressively deeper exploration across your stay.

All retreats include private air-conditioned accommodation, all psilocybin ceremonies, certified guide and shaman support, pre-retreat workbook, integration sessions, sound therapy, home-cooked meals using fresh local and seasonal produce, and transportation throughout your retreat.

Not included: flights or airport transfers. However, we offer full concierge services and can arrange everything for you. Airport transfers are available from Montego Bay ($90 each way), Kingston ($150 each way), and Ian Fleming International Airport (no charge).

We offer tiered refunds based on notice period. Full details are provided at the time of booking. We understand that plans change and we handle every situation with care and flexibility where possible.

Preparing For Your Retreat

What does the intake process involve?

Before your retreat, you will complete a detailed intake form covering your mental health history, current medications, any trauma history, and your intentions for the experience. This is followed by a one-on-one consultation with one of our guides. The entire process typically takes about one week and is designed to ensure you arrive prepared, safe, and ready.

In the days before your retreat we ask that you eliminate alcohol for at least 3 days prior, reduce or cut caffeine, avoid red meat, and eat clean, natural, non-spicy foods. These steps help your body respond more openly to the medicine and support a deeper experience.

Possibly, but this must be discussed during your intake consultation. SSRIs and SNRIs can reduce the effectiveness of psilocybin and may need to be tapered under medical supervision before your retreat. ADHD medications can often be managed with proper guidance. We take medication compatibility seriously and will work with you to find the safest path forward.

During Your Retreat

Who will be guiding me?

Your retreat is led by an experienced team including a  shaman with over 10 years and 200+ ceremonies of experience, psychedelic guides, an integration coach, and support staff. We maintain a high facilitator-to-guest ratio of approximately 1:3 so you always feel seen and supported.

Each ceremony is held in a carefully prepared sacred space with curated music, comfortable surroundings, and your guide present at all times. The medicine is dosed individually based on your needs and intentions. Sessions typically begin at noon and last several hours. Aftercare and integration conversation follow each ceremony.

Challenging moments can and do arise — and they are often where the deepest healing happens. Our guides are trained and experienced in supporting guests through difficult emotions, old trauma, and unexpected experiences. You will never be left alone and you will always be held with care.

We keep groups intimate by design. Options include private retreats for 1 guest (available on request), semi-private for 2 guests with one per room, and group retreats for up to 7 guests with one per room recommended.

Yes, couples are welcome. We do recommend separate rooms as this is a deeply personal experience. During the ceremonies themselves, guests focus inward — interaction with your partner happens after the experience, not during it. Dosing is always individual and the journey belongs to you alone.

After Your Retreat

What happens after I go home?

Integration doesn’t end when you leave Jamaica. We offer post-retreat virtual integration sessions to help you process your experience and apply your insights to everyday life. Ask your host about our post-retreat support options when you book.

Many guests report meaningful shifts in mood, perspective, and behaviour that last months or even years after a single retreat. Proper integration support is key to sustaining these changes — which is why we invest so much in both on-site and post-retreat care.

Mycelia has welcomed guests from across the USA, Canada, Australia, the UK, Sweden, Germany, and beyond. Our community is truly international — united by the courage to go deeper.
